Ashley’s Favorite Supplements

When it comes to adding a little extra into my lifestyle, there are so many options. As a registered dietitian, of course my career wraps around food. But there are times when our body needs more, and that is where supplements come into play. All of our supplements at Vitamine Wellness help in different ways, but I definitely have some favorites.

Magnesium. I added magnesium back into my routine this past year when I was pregnant, after having multiple occurrences of leg cramps. Magnesium doesn’t help with just muscle cramps – but also anxiety, sleep and even constipation. Now, as a Mama of two little ones, I try to eat more foods high in magnesium, but the supplementation is a must with juggling multiple things, plus it helps me wind down a bit. Turmeric. Oh, turmeric! The holy grail for reducing inflammation! Turmeric has been used for years within the Indian culture and has become more popular within the United States. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric and is a very strong antioxidant, which supports reducing inflammation within the body. When I was in my early 20s, I was diagnosed with Raynaud’s syndrome. I made some major life changes; one of them included focusing on inflammation within my body … which is where turmeric came into play! The combination of black pepper and turmeric in our supplements is genius. A bioactive compound called piperine is in black pepper and helps with the absorption of curcumin. Probiotic. Gut health is where it is at! Probiotics are all over the market. While I love to talk about foods that naturally support you in the probiotic area, it is great to also incorporate a supplement – especially when you know what strains of probiotics are included. Our probiotic is a great option to start with, as it includes a proprietary blend of six different probiotic strains to help support not only digestive health but also the immune system. Additionally, we offer a less intense probiotic option, our Acidophilus-Probiotic Blend. This contains four different probiotics and 1 million live cultures and is another great option to support the digestive tract. I love to include a probiotic in my daily regimen, knowing that I am helping my body and supporting healthy digestion.

Collagen. Who doesn’t love being able to support their skin, tissue, and recovery for their body? Collagen is a must for me. Since it is a protein that plays a big role with tissue and cellular processes, I was excited to see this in our Vitamine Wellness lineup. Collagen is found in all animals, with more of an increased amount within animal skin and joints. If you typically do not consume animal-based protein, using a collagen supplement is a great option for anyone, especially as they age.
